It’s finally hot hot in the northern hemisphere, and here in London, I’m going to be particularly British and say it might be too hot - no, we’re never happy. But hear me out, the underground is reaching high 30s, and because it’s summer, it’s busier than ever. My work has air con, which is great, but means I have to wear something that can handle the sweltering tube as well as a cool office.
Navigating what to wear has become my daily battle, with cardigans and long-sleeves tied around my waist or packed into my bag, alongside my iced water and portable fan. I don't work in a corporate setting, but I equally can’t use my holiday wardrobe either and so I’ve realised I need to build out my summer city go-to outfits. I’m still not sure why I have such a large collection of only-holiday pieces for the (if I’m lucky) 1-2 week annual trips into Europe, yet not enough everyday items that get me through humid London each summer.
Here’s some inspiration for the “summer in the city” aesthetic that a lot of us actually need.
Sharing below some of the things that I’ve seen or bought recently to try and change the disparity in my wardrobe, and make my mornings less effort.
These balloon-shaped jeans from Pull and Bear are lighter and more summer-friendly than other trousers.
I was swayed by the (many) TikTok ads I saw on Wonderskin lip stain - but it does work for a good amount of the day. I got the colour Whimsical, which gives me a warm rose colour .
Love this top from Zara, which is a great throw on when it’s hot.
I really want this dress from Whistles, made from organic cotton it’s fantastic for warm weather and the smocked style is so flattering. It can also be dressed up or down depending on the occasion.
Too smart for the beach, but this linen sarong skirt from Mango is the perfect nod to summer.
Again can be dressed up or down, and I love the drop waist of this dress by H&M - also comes in cream but it could look a bit bridal (unless that’s what you’re after).
Flip flops are back thanks to The Row and it means my Havaiana’s are now not just an easy choice but a fashionable one!
I bought these sunglasses from Mango, I just loved the shaped.
Hope you manage to stay cool this week!

That linen sarong looks dreamy (and a lot more premium than high street!)
