It feels blasphemous to suggest that jeans aren’t interesting; they make up 90% of my outfits in any given week. But having said that… summer makes denim more difficult to navigate. When shorts aren’t quite right for the occasion and you want to feel more put together - enter the printed trouser.
I am a big fan of all of these inspiring looks, especially the ones top middle - I need to find where those are from. They all manage to look really cool, which gets harder when wearing potentially quite garish trousers.
But looking closely, the idea is repeated in each outfit - interesting in the bottom, subtle on top. You can definitely vary the fabric, fit, colour of the top but it lets the trousers sing. This is like an entry-level description to the interesting trouser. There are those, far more skilled than I, who are able to carry off wearing two conflicting prints on top and bottom. But this requires some serious thought - something that a normal day doesn’t demand of me very often.
I’ve included a mixture of fabric, fit, pattern and price tag in my findings below, which can help you navigate how/when you would want to style them.
Very Italian riviera - these from Maje are made mostly from viscose (with some linen) so breathable, and flow nicely. Could definitely be worn on a trip to the Mediterranean this summer - on or by the sea!
100% linen, the pattern on these Boden will make you stand out at any summer party - but could also be worn more casually with flip flops and a denim jacket.
An absolute steal at £27.99 - these casual trousers from Bershka are amazing for lounging in on a hot day.
Another pair from Boden! Not my usual go-to brand, but they’ve made interesting trousers their thing. To avoid making these too mumsy (sorry but Boden can lean into that quite quickly), I would add a graphic tee, some flip flops, maybe a cap. These are incredibly cool when styled.
Zara combining the jean and print, also with a barrel leg to keep it looking super relevant. I would personally avoid any other colour or print here.
The best until last, these from La Veste are just so good and they come in multiple colour ways!
Hopefully this sparks some interest to think outside of the box, as it were, this summer. Trousers tend to be an after thought for the interesting top, or even shoe. But not this year!
Have a great week.
