Happy Sunday evening!
This week - the humble white trouser. I’m noticing a lot of people are braving white jeans, chinos, linen etc. It’s the 90s/preppy/all-American era that we’re currently back in and I’m here for it.
I really like the all-white look, but the trick is to mix it up so it doesn’t look too… pearls and a twin set. I’ve found that could be either with an oversized top half, an unusual fabric (like the middle image), or even shorts/boxer shorts. Done well, it can look super low-key chic.
For a cropped look (top left), I like these turn-ups from ME+EM, a great brand that pays great attention to the fit, or these culottes from Cos. For a relaxed cotton look, M&S, Massimo Dutti and Uniqlo have good options. For a smarter look, these from Zara or Marcela London. Finally, white jeans from Massimo Dutti (a firm favourite of mine) here for high-rise with wide leg, or these by Mango, which I already own in black and medium blue - the straight fit and mid-rise is chef’s kiss.
Next, the things that I’ve seen recently that I want to shout about.
Merit Beauty is now a core feature in my make-up bag, coming from a lazy girl. I have the Minimalist complexion stick, the Flush balm in Beverley Hills and I use the Brush No.1 to put it all on. I love the colour of this Signature Lip (in soft berry) on the model, with the rest of her make-up very minimal. It’s more understated than a classic red, which I feel like I need more of a reason to wear (why?!).
I’ve finally been convinced by my Dutch boyfriend to get bikes, but I’m nervous to commit too early - enter Swapfiets. You can rent monthly, if it gets stolen you can pay £40 to get it back, and if you run into any issues (my worst nightmare), they’ll fix it. So smart, so Dutch.
I saw Harriet Haskell-Thomas wearing this Sessùn shirt and I instantly fell in love. I often need to wear jeans and a nice top/shirt/blouse in my day-to-day or at events, and I have not seen anything as cool as this. Alas, she’s not cheap but another French brand to keep tabs on.
- posted about these Missoma heart studs and I messaged her immediately. I think the mini size are the cutest but the bigger sizes would be amazing as statement jewellery as part of a wedding guest outfit.
I bought this M&S leopard-print swimsuit for my upcoming beach trip in May. It’s now sold out online but it’s only April so I feel like it will come back in. I love the square neckline, it also doubles up as a vest top with some shorts, which is helpful when I have challenged myself to just have an under-seat bag for a 4-day girls trip… more on that another time.
Boat shoes, we will all look like we summer in the Hamptons or attending Cowes week this year if we’re not careful - but for someone that loves a relaxed look, I’m excited. These versions from Free People are a great choice. Most high-street brands are making a women’s version of the classic boat shoe and it’s not cool, the top of the shoe should come further up the foot - they need to look like you’ve borrowed a men’s shoe. The wrong shoe theory (god bless
) is important with these - if your whole outfit is preppy, it’ll go from cool to…Cowes. Not easy to achieve, but Hush has created the perfect grey knit, with really lovely rib detail on the sides.
I was lucky enough to get this Matilda Goad’s cutlery set for Christmas last year. Definitely not a first on the list when you move into a new house, but I do genuinely feel joy every time I use them.
My ride or die: L’Occitane Immortelle serum is the absolute tits.
This dress from Zara, already sold out before coming back online. Yes, white dresses are a no-go at most weddings, but this could be perfect for any other event or party this summer - or a day-before dress if you’re the bride!
Thank you again if you’ve gotten this far. Have a good week!

I’ve used ShopMy for some of the links, which means that on the off-chance that I have inspired you to purchase, I could receive a commission . If so, thank you!
Loved this. I have also committed to a long girls weekend with only an under seat bag - will keep an eye out for your tips!
